A pet rabbit can be a wonderful addition to your family. And just like with their humans, diet and nutrition can make a world of difference when it comes to your rabbit's health and quality of life. That being said, some foods are definitely unsafe and even toxic for your rabbit to eat.

So what foods are unsafe for rabbits? Here are a few to keep in mind:

  • Chocolate: Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, which can be toxic for rabbits.

  • Macadamia Nuts: Macadamia nuts are toxic for rabbits and can cause weakness, lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain, and even death.

  • Avocados: Unlike humans and other animals, rabbits cannot digest the fruit of the avocado tree.

  • Raisins: Raisins are toxic for rabbits and can cause gastrointestinal problems.

  • Grapes: Grapes are toxic for rabbits and can cause kidney failure.

  • Spinach: Spinach contains oxalic acid, which can be toxic to rabbits.

  • Cat food: Cat food is not healthy for rabbits because it has too much protein for their bodies.

If your rabbit happens to ingest any of the foods on this list, get him in to see a vet immediately.

And if you have more questions or wish to schedule your rabbit for a checkup, please feel free to call us, your local vet clinic near me Anderson, IN anytime!
