The tail of your cat is not just a decorative part of her body that makes her movements graceful and elegant. It has a lot to tell about what she feels and what she might be thinking. It is an essential medium of communication that you look out for.

When a cat’s tail is positioned upright, there is a high possibility that she’s trying to befriend the person or pet in front of her. Along with an upright tail are her relaxed whiskers and ears. When your cat is aggressive, the erection of her tail’s hair should be your warning to distance yourself from her. The erection of hair is scientifically termed piloerection. Cats do this to make themselves bigger and more dominant than the threat near them. Not all the time, aggressive cats behave this way. Some move their tails side by side, and you will not even be able to tell that she feels aggressive. On the other hand, nervous cats hide their tails between their back legs. This tail positioning may also mean submission.

Aside from tail position, there are other ways to assume what your cat may feel. This includes reading her facial expressions: her eyes, mouth, and ears movement. When your cat’s ears are proudly standing, she may be feeling angry or aggressive. She may feel afraid when her pupils dilate, and her ears bow down. Memorize how your cat looks when she is relaxed. This way, you’ll quickly determine when she feels otherwise. Aside from facial expression, observing your cat’s body language in determining her feelings is also effective.
