Strong Scents Can Stress Out Your Cat

Writer's picture: Veterinary InnovatorsVeterinary Innovators

Strong smells can be a source of stress for cats, as their sense of smell is significantly more powerful than humans. Some household items like cleaning products, perfumes, or even certain foods, may have a strong smell which can be stressful to cats and may also trigger their sense of fear, discomfort, and anxiety.

Strong smells can disturb your cat's sense of security and make her feel insecure. So you must only use fragrance-free or all-natural cleaning solutions, stay away from scented candles and air fresheners to lessen the negative impact of these potent odors on your cat.

Make sure to keep strong-smelling foods and other items away from your cat's living space too. Provide a safe and comfortable shelter for your cat that is free from these hazardous and strong-odored items. Your cat would surely love you more if she is not upset by these strong smells.

Any concerns you may have about your pet’s health and/or behavior should be brought to the attention of your vet Burlington, ON.
