Cleaning Ferret Ears

Your ears are not the only ones that can get dirty. Of course, the ears of other living beings may have dust, dirt, and other particles from the environment – making them dirty. Ferrets may be small animals, but they have ears too that need cleaning at times.

If you want to keep your ferrets’ health in mint condition, you must include cleaning their ears in your health regimen. Ferrets may have discharge or debris in their ears. Yellow- or orange-colored debris can easily be cleaned. This debris is normal. But when the debris you see is black or dark brown, it means you have to bring your ferret to the vet. This debris may imply ear mite infestation or yeast infection.

How should you clean a ferret’s ear?

  • Use the recommended ear cleaner by your vet.

  • Prepare all materials or equipment you will need. Place the cleanser bottle in a bowl with warm water. Doing so will warm the liquid, making it more comfortable for the pet.

  • Make a few drops gently after you have warmed the bottle. Massage the behind of the pet’s ear. Doing so will help get the liquid down.

If your pet is showing any signs of an ear problem, make an appointment with your veterinary clinic Eau Claire, WI.
